Charlie Olan McCray, 90, of Acworth, died Friday, March 9, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Monday afternoon in the chapel of Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Abbott officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Hill Cemetery. Born in Acworth in 1921, Olan owned McCray Plumbing, Electrical and Heating in Acworth from 1949-1967. He was a plumbing, electrical and heating inspector for Acworth and at various times, for Cobb County. He was elected Constable of Acworth district and Justice of the Peace from 1972-1983 and served as Magistrate for Cobb County for 16 years. He was involved in other numerous activities such as Honorary Special Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Kermit Sanders and deputy police under Ken Copeland in the City of Acworth. He and his wife were Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus for the City of Acworth for several years. Olan was a member of the Acworth Masonic Blue Lodge 176 F&AM since 1944. In 1945 he became a member of the Moon Chapter Royal Arch Masons in Dallas. In 1975 he became a member of the Jasonberry Council in the Commandery Lodge 26. In 1977 he joined the Yaarab Shrine Temple of Atlanta. He was a 32 degree York Rite Mason and was a member of Grand Masters of the Nights Templar. He was a member of the Low Twelve Club, a member of Acworth Eastern Star Chapter 455 and served as Sentinel in 2005 and then went to the Eastern Star in Kennesaw. He was preceded in death on Dec. 24th by his wife of 70 yrs, Ruby Hunt McCray. He is survived by his sons Leman “Moose” McCray and Raymond McCray of Acworth. daughter Helen Nicholson of Newberry FL., grandsons Roger (Sonya) Nicholson of Canton, Nicolas (Joann) McCray of Kingsland GA US Navy, Carlos (Jannet) McCray of Marietta; granddaughters Kerry McCray of Charlotte NC and Angela (Darrell) Ivey of Jacksonville, FL; 7 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Children‘s Health Care of Atlanta at Scottish Rite at www.choa.org. Online condolences may be expressed at www.collinsfuneralhome.org.
